This month I received my first Nerdy Bookworm Box through the post. Nerdy Bookworm is a new, monthly subscription box service for book lovers specialising in fantasy and science fiction Young Adult titles. The Nerdy Bookworm Box costs £29.99 per box which includes free shipping in the UK and is available as a subscription or as a onetime only purchase.
Each month’s box has a different theme and the theme for June 2016 was ‘Dark Magic’ which I was very excited about, here is what was inside!
This month’s book was This Savage Song, the first book in the Monsters Of Verity series by V.E.Schwab. I haven’t previously read any of V.E.Schwab’s novels but I am familiar with them having heard great things about her previous works which include A Darker Shade Of Magic and A Gathering Of Shadows. Here is more about the story from the blurb:
‘Kate Harker and August Flynn are the heirs to a divided city, a grisly metropolis where the violence has begun to create real and deadly monsters. All Kate wants is to be as ruthless as her father, who lets the monsters roam free and makes the inhabitants pay for his protection. August just wants to be human, as good-hearted as his own father – but his curse is to be what the humans fear. The thin truce that keeps the Harker and Flynn families at peace is crumbling, and an assassination attempt forces Kate and August into a tenuous alliance. But how long will they survive in a city where no one is safe and monsters are real,’
I think this story sounds brilliant so will look forward to reading this. Also included for this book from the author were some temporary tattoos and a signed bookplate which is great to have.
Along with a book each month, each box contains a selection of book themed gifts. Continuing this month’s theme is a ‘Dark Magic’ candle by Luna’s Locket. I was really impressed with the quality and it smells lovely so will certainly be using this. There is also a very cool dragon’s eye bracelet designed and made by Eliza’s Flowers. This is a brass bracelet with a dragon’s eye at its centre which certainly stands out with colours of purple, blue and black. I am a fan of unusual jewellery items so I am looking forward to wearing it. I also really liked the message on its card backing – ‘It simply isn’t an adventure worth telling if there aren’t any dragons.’
As a huge fan of Harry Potter I was so excited to see this next item. In the box was a scroll tied up with a bow. Inside was a ‘House of Black’ poster featuring Bellatrix Lestrange and Sirius Black. Designed exclusively for Nerdy Bookworm Box by Infinity Books this is a very striking print that features a wonderful quote from the series – ‘We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.’
Next up there was a ‘Lightning Bolt Moments’ notebook by Newton and the Apple. This is a very pretty notebook and I loved the lightning print in different shades of blue. I am very fond of stationary so this was a very welcome addition to my collection. There was a second Harry Potter item in this box and it featured one of my favourite characters – Professor Snape. This adorable sticker featuring Snape in cartoon form is by Black Out Art and I will be sure to find somewhere to keep him. Finally, there was a little bookworm magnet by Button Nook which was a very sweet design.
I was impressed with the contents of June’s Nerdy Bookworm Box. I really love the branding and as an owl enthusiast I approved of the owls, books and tea logo! I also loved the packaging inside from the tissue paper to the stickers and most of all the book itself which was separately wrapped in paper and tied up with string – it even had a little key charm on the string. I have already placed my order for next month’s box which you can see me unbox next month. The theme for July’s box is ‘Book Boyfriends’ which I am certainly intrigued about – I can’t wait to see what’s inside!
