This month I was excited to open my fourth Nerdy Bookworm Box. Nerdy Bookworm is a monthly subscription box service for book lovers specialising in science fiction and fantasy YA titles. It costs £29.99 per box as a single purchase which includes free shipping in the UK and is also available as a subscription at £28.99 per box for three months or £27.99 per box for six months prepaid.
Each month’s box has a different theme and the theme for September 2016 was ‘Queens’ which I was excited about, here is what was inside!
This month’s book was Three Dark Crowns by Kendare Blake. Here is what it says on the back:
‘In every generation on the island of Fennbirn a set of triplets is born: three queens, all equal heirs to the crown, all possessed of a coveted magic.
Mirabella, a fierce elemental, can spark hungry flames with the click of a finger.
Katharine, a poisoner, is known to be resistant to the deadliest of snake bites.
Arsinoe, a naturalist, is rumoured to have the ability to bloom the reddest of roses.
But becoming the Queen crowned is not just a matter of royal birth. These three sisters must fight to the death for the throne, and on the night they turn sixteen the battle begins. Only one queen can inherit the crown.
Whose side are you on?’
I love the sound of this so am looking forward to reading it and meeting these fascinating characters. I also liked that the book is available with alternate covers for each of the queens. I’m not sure if everyone would get the same cover or not but I received Arsinoe’s cover with the red roses which looks great.
Along with a book each month each box contains a selection of book themed gifts. This month they included a ‘Lost Queen of Terrasen’ candle by Meraki Candles. I am not familiar with the book this is inspired by but it smells wonderful with scents of jasmine, pine and snow. Continuing the snow theme there was an item based on Disney’s Frozen (confession – I still haven’t seen it!) This was a Funko Pocket Pop! vinyl figure of Anna from Frozen which was very cute and will be right at home within my extensive Funko collection.
Next up we have a mini poster featuring Khaleesi from the Game of Thrones series featuring the quote ‘I will do what queens do. I will rule.’ This was a sweet little poster that was designed exclusively for this box. There was also an adorable little notebook from Neon Magpie featuring the Queen of Hearts from Alice In Wonderland. I love pretty stationary so really liked this item.
One of my favourite items in the box this month was this lovely ‘Books Rule’ tote bag designed by Nerdy Bookworm Box. I love tote bags and I really liked the design and colour of this particular one. There were also a couple of little extras included such as an adorable set of Disney stickers by Plannable Designs and a voucher for Neon Magpie, the designers of the gorgeous notebook. I will definitely be taking advantage of this as they have some fabulous goodies on their website!
This was one of my favourite Nerdy Bookworm boxes to date and I can see that each month there are new additions and the box is getting better and better. September featured an extended edition of the ‘Owl Hoots’ mini magazine with lots of extra features. This also featured the wonderful artwork for this month’s theme which was also included on the boxes new editions. Each box will now include a bookmark featuring that month’s artwork and there was a matching ‘Quest Card’ which had a password to access additional content online which is a great idea! And as usual the box and contents were beautifully presented, with a pretty little crown charm sealing this month’s book.
I will be getting this box next month and the theme for the October box is ‘Doppelgangers’ which sounds interesting. It has already been revealed that one of the items is Harry Potter inspired so am particularly excited about this!
