Fairy Loot Unboxing – July 2017

Today it is time to unbox the July Fairy Loot! Fairy Loot is a monthly subscription box focusing on Young Adult fantasy titles. You can get a single box for £26 per month (plus VAT and shipping) or you can choose to subscribe for 3 or 6 months.

I am currently subscribed to Fairy Loot and July’s box is the eighth that I have received. The theme for July was ‘Tricksters’ and here is what was inside!

fairylootjul1The first couple of items I spotted were from fandoms I am particularly excited about and which were included in the theme reveal! The first was an exclusive Sherlock tin mug by Fictiontea Designs! I haven’t received a tin mug before but this one is a really nice, simple design which includes the quote ‘I have to go to my mind palace’. I am a big fan of the Sherlock series so was really happy with this item. Another item I was happy to find was a set of Hogwarts playing cards! I am a huge fan of Harry Potter with quite an extensive collection of merchandise so this was a welcome addition. This was an officially licensed product and of a high quality. The cards feature beautiful artwork representing the four Hogwarts houses and they are stored in a gorgeous tin which I was so excited about! I also liked how this item fits in well with the ‘Trickster’ theme!

fairylootjul2Next up we had something a bit different which I hadn’t received in a subscription box before – a kitchen glove! I had suspected this may have been one of the items as Fairy Loot had hinted at the inclusion of a more unusual but practical item. Created exclusively for this box by Fairy Loot, the design on this kitchen glove is beautiful and I love the black and gold colour scheme and the moons and stars. It also depicts fortune telling and palm reading which is significant to this month’s book! Then there was a gorgeous bookmark by Lexy Olivia. This features a quote from Six of Crows and whilst I have not read this series I really like the quote and the watercolour design, particularly the beautiful feather on its reverse!

fairylootjul3There were also a couple of items inspired by comic book characters in this month’s box. The first was a ‘Loki: Essence of Trickster’ body lotion created for the box by Geeky Clean. I have pretty sensitive skin but have tried this out already and it works really well! It has a lovely fresh and clean scent to it and I love the little Loki illustration on the bottle. We also received an art print designed by Miss Phi which again is an exclusive item. It is inspired by Harley Quinn and in particular as she is depicted in the Suicide Squad film. I love the quote featured on this and the vibrant colours.

fairylootjul4And now it is time for this month’s book which was Daughter of the Burning City by Amanda Foody. Here is a little about the book from the inside cover:

‘Sixteen-year-old Sorina has spent most of her life within the smoldering borders of the Gomorrah Festival. Yet even among the many unusual members of the travelling circus-ciyt, Sorina stands apart as the only illusion-worker born in hundreds of year. This rare talent allows her to create illusions that others can see, feel and touch, with personalities all their own. Her creations are her family, and together they make up the cast of the Festival’s Freak Show.

But no matter how lifelike they may seem, her illusions are still just that – illusions, and not truly real. Or so they always believed…until one of them is murdered.’

This is the first novel from Amanda Foody and it sounds really interesting so am looking forward to reading it very soon – and I am also a fan of the gorgeous purple cover! Accompanying the book there was a letter from the author and a signed bookplate which is typical of Fairy Loot boxes. There was also the regular ‘Fairy Scoop’ leaflet featuring an author interview, and the reading buddy card featuring a unique hashtag enabling you to share your views on the book with another reader (I’m #FairyLoot01738 this month reading buddy, if you are out there!). And we also received the collectable bookmark which matches the monthly artwork which I really like.

Once again I am happy with this box and am impressed with the quality of items and the thought that has gone into each one to fit to the theme. I am looking forward to reading the book and of this month’s items I am most pleased with the Sherlock mug and Harry Potter cards – thank you Fairy Loot! The theme for the August box is ‘Otherworlds’ which sounds interesting so be sure to check back next month to see what’s inside! And if you would like to see the contents of any Fairy Loot from December 2016 onwards, you can find my unboxings in the ‘Subscription Box Unboxing’ section of my blog!

  1. Just took a look of some of the earlier FairyLoot unboxings you’ve done and I’ve been cursing myself for not getting a subscription sooner from the start, haha.
This one was only my third and I just discovered that I missed a bunch of awesome goodies – so disappointed with myself that I kept doubting to subscribe..

Oh well, there’ll be plenty more bookish goodies to come in the future!
