Today I am very excited to be sharing my unboxing of a brand new book subscription box! My Chronicle Book Box is a quarterly box which is available in one of two genre options – science fiction and fantasy or crime and mystery. When I subscribed I was torn between the two but decided to go with crime and mystery as this is a genre I don’t buy as frequently, so I was looking forward to discovering some books and authors I may not have picked up otherwise. Without further ado, here is what I found inside this month’s box!
The first thing I saw when I opened the box was an envelope addressed to me! This was a really nice touch and made the box feel more personal. I also loved the My Chronicle Book Box seal! The envelope contained some exclusive author content and a list of the contents so I saved this until last. And underneath it there were so many things it was like Christmas had come early…
I love to curl up with a book and a hot drink and the box came with a large packet of ‘Under Milkwood’ coffee from Darkwoods Coffee. Admittedly I am not a coffee drinker but I may give this a try as it sounds delicious and it is an award winner! Next up was a beautiful soy candle from Northumbrian Candleworks. There were two different fragrances sent out and I got the Honeysuckle Jasmine scent which is really lovely.
Along with an item for the coffee lovers there was an item for the tea lovers as well with this adorable print designed by Miss Bohemia. This is a beautiful autumnal print which features the quote ‘You can never get a cup of tea large enough or a book long enough to suit me’ from C.S. Lewis which I love. I will definitely be displaying this on my bookshelf! Another beautiful item was a pocket mirror designed exclusively for the box by JenThe PieceMaker. I love the book print fabric covering on this mirror and it is perfect to pop in your handbag! There was also a bookmark from That Company Called If. This was a magnifying glass bookmark which I thought was really fun and very fitting for a crime and mystery box. And finally there was a bonus item from Debbie Young, author of the Sophie Sayers mysteries with some chocolate coins!
And now it is on to the books! Each My Chronicle Book Box comes with two books in your chosen genre, but I was pleasantly surprised to see there was a bonus third book included! All of the books were individually wrapped and I couldn’t wait to see what was inside. The first book I opened was ‘Death in the Stars’ by Frances Brody. This is a Kate Shackleton mystery and I was immediately drawn to the gorgeous cover art and the 1920’s setting. I always enjoy stories that take place in a historical setting so am looking forward to this one. It also included a bookmark, signed bookplate and a letter from the author.
The next book was from an author whose name I recognised although I haven’t read any of her books yet! This was a hardcover copy of ‘Did You See Melody?’ by Sophie Hannah. This sounds like an intriguing story and I have heard so much about Sophie Hannah’s writing so it is another that I am looking forward to reading. There was also author content included for this book.
And finally, there was a bonus book – Strange Sight by Syd Moore. This is an Essex Witch Museum Mystery which is very different from the other books featured and has a supernatural element to it which is interesting. I liked that the three books all offer something a little different, with historical and contemporary settings – I am looking forward to reading them all!
I am delighted with my first My Chronicle Book Box. From the beautiful blue box itself, through to the presentation and wrapping and the quality of the items themselves it is hard to believe this is a first box! The box costs £45 and considering the books included and the standard of the accompanying items I think that this is good value for money. I am now looking forward to the next box in February!
