May Round-Up – The Books I Read In May 2018

may18

May has been a busy month on the blog as after a quieter month in April I managed to finish reading and reviewing eight books!

The first three books I read this month were those I took with me on holiday in April. I finished reading Greatest Hits by Laura Barnett, a wonderful story of a woman’s life told through a selection of songs that represent the key moments in her life. I went on to read The Devil’s Claw by Lara Dearman, an atmospheric thriller which draws on the folklore of its Guernsey setting, and Even The Dogs by Jon McGregor, an unflinching, powerful story about those on the outside of society.

Next up was my stop on the blog tour for Mr Peacock’s Possessions by Lydia Syson. This was a fascinating story with a vivid setting which I really enjoyed. I also enjoyed Anne Youngson’s debut novel, Meet Me At The Museum, which was a wonderful epistolary novel in which two people who have lost something find each other. And I was also delighted to read Alison Moore’s latest novel, Missing, which was an expertly written story of a woman living on in the wake of a family tragedy.

This month I also read the latest in Tessa Harris’ Constance Piper mystery series, The Angel Makers. This was an intriguing historical mystery with a paranormal edge as a London flower seller becomes aware of some unsettling events in the city. And finally, I took part in the blog tour for Juliet and Romeo by David Hewson, in which I featured a guest post from David about his enjoyable retelling.

I also had a couple of subscription boxes to open this month. I shared my unboxing of April’s ‘Whimsical Journeys’ box from Fairy Loot, along with the latest crime and mystery box from My Chronicle Book Box. And finally this month, I blogged about my visit to the Hay Festival!

As always I would like to thank everyone who has visited my blog this month and shared my posts, I really appreciate it; I will be back next month with more book reviews and subscription box unboxings! Let me know if you have read any of these books and what you thought of them!
