December Round-Up – The Books I Read In December 2018

This month I managed to read and review six books. Here is a roundup of my blog posts this month…

My first read of the month was Unsheltered, the latest novel by Barbara Kingsolver. This was an enjoyable read which alternates between two timelines, exploring the lives of two families who live in the same home over a century apart. I then went on to read the debut novel from Hanya Yanagihara, The People In The Trees. This was a fascinating but challenging read in which we meet a scientist and his discoveries as well as the shocking scandal that overshadows his work.

This month I got round to reading Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman, an entertaining collection of stories inspired by the famous Norse myths. I enjoyed meeting the different, gods goddesses and magical creatures in what was a great book to enjoy on a winters evening. Another book I read this month that I have had for a few years was The Library Of Unrequited Love by Sophie Divry, a quirky little read in which we are witness to a librarian pouring out her heart to a man who has been in her library overnight.

I received my first book subscription from Golden Hare Books this month and the featured book was To The Back Of Beyond by Peter Stamm. This was another short read but an atmospheric one in which we see a man who one day decides to walk out on his family. A thought provoking read which leaves you with plenty to ponder over. And my final read for December was Sympathy by Olivia Sudjic, which is a book exploring the relationship we have with the internet and the access it allows us into other peoples’ lives. This is evidenced through the obsession that develops between a young woman and the writer who has captured her imagination.

And finally, I looked back on some of my favourite reads of 2018 and picked out my top 5!

Thank you to everyone who has visited my blog in December and throughout 2018. I haven’t always found the time to be more involved with the blogging community so I appreciate the support! Let me know what you have been reading this month, or if you have enjoyed any of my December reads!
